Current volunteer opportunities for FEM Tech members
Scientific Adventures for Girls is looking for volunteers to fill the following positions:
- Assistants in after school STEM classes for girls for Spring 2016 – sessions are 10 weeks long and a class is held once a week from 3-5pm; assist head instructor with hands-on projects with group of 15 girls. Do not need STEM background, just positive attitude and work well with young girls, provide positive support and help teach determination, collaboration and perseverance and that it is OK to make mistakes. Commitment is once a week for 10 weeks; two hours a week.
- STEM Role Models – visit one class during session and talk about why you are studying STEM and do a related project to your field – 2-hour commitment
- Hour of Code – Volunteers are needed during the week of December 7th to help during the “Hour of Code” in a few locations. This would be for 1 ½ hours. Volunteer will use code.org during this week.
- Volunteers for Oakland Library Project – Possible opportunity for Summer 2016 – Volunteers are needed to teach a STEM class at an Oakland Library once a month. Volunteers will assist head teacher with larger group to do hands-on projects. Commitment is once a month for 2 hours from 1-12 months. The class is for girls and boys.
